About Sunset Ladder & Scaffold |
|
|
A Family Owned Business Since 1929
The Sunset Ladder Company was established on the infamous Sunset Blvd in 1929. After a brief foray into furniture manufacturing ladder products were added. Wooden ladders and scaffold planks became more popular and the other products were discontinued. Shortly after the Great Depression the original founder sold the fledgling Company to Mr. Grant Ostergard for the tidy sum of $300.00. With the requirement for ladders and scaffolding equipment steadily growing and the expansion of Hollywood and it's Movie industry Grant found ladders were in great demand. With the building boom of the Los Angeles area well under way Sunset Ladder became a important supplier to the construction trade as well as the movie studios.
A fire in 1943 destroyed the company’s buildings along with many other surrounding businesses. The Sunset Boulevard property was quite valuable at the time so it was sold and the company moved just one block south.
Second Warehouse Opens
New development to the east of Los Angeles made for a great opportunity. With the leftover proceeds from the sale of the Sunset Blvd property Mr. Ostergard opened a second bigger and more strategically located warehouse in South El Monte, California. By 1949, Sunset Ladder had a well established business manufacturing wooden ladders and planks both for sale and rental. Multiple daily deliveries were made to virtually every major Motion Picture studio in Hollywood, Manila Rope Block and Tackle equipment for Window Washers was hand made on site and rented out for work on all medium High Rise buildings throughout Southern California. Since the 1930s Sunset Ladder provides specialized scaffolding and planks to just about every float builder for the world renowned Rose Parade providing safe access for the decorators.
First Distributor for Little Giant Ladder Systems
Although rentals still make up a substantial share of Sunset Ladder’s business, our main function today is a distribution of ladders and scaffold products. We are proud to be a major distributor for Louisville, Werner, Stinson, Cotterman, Ladder Industries and many others. A special relationship began in 1979 when Sunset Ladder became the very first distributor for Little Giant Ladder Systems by Wing Enterprises. Wing ladders appeared on the market in 1972 and until 1979 were sold door-to-door, at Fairs and Tradeshows by the factory sales team traveling all across the country. Since then we have sold thousands of Little Giant ladders admiring with our customers over versatility, strength, and safety of this unique product.
ABSS Manufacturing Opens
Another exciting chapter started in 1997 with the opening of ABSS Manufacturing. This new Sunset Ladder affiliated company was established to secure a continuous source of ladder and scaffold products that dramatically dwindled as a result of nationwide ladder business consolidation. Currently we manufacture a full line of Fiberglass and Aluminum Industrial grade ladders, scaffold planks and stages, sawhorses, custom designed ladder products and many other related items. We are constantly working on expanding our product line, making our ladders lighter, stronger and providing our customers with best values.
